History
Summer Science Camp (SSC) began in 1992 at Rockwell International’s Space System Division in Downey, California. The Summer Science Camp has grown from a mere 80 students in 1992 to over 450 students in 2004. SSC was founded on the concept of making science and math fun through the use of inexpensive hands-on activities. The three key elements to SSC’s success have been hands-on involvement, simplicity, and enthusiasm.
For the first 15 years of development, Summer Science Camp was supported by Rockwell International and Boeing (when Boeing acquired Rockwell in 1996). Over the years, the Summer Science Camp has enjoyed partnerships with the Boeing Employees Community Fund, Rio Hondo College, Cerritos College Foundation, NuVision Federal Credit Union, Southern California Gas Company, and Northrop Grumman.
