RECAP: Summer Science Camp 2009
Posted on August 19, 2009
From July 17 to August 1, Buena Park Junior High was transformed into a world of science. Students participating in the 18th Annual Summer Science Camp learned about computers, electronics, forensics, rocket launches, flight simulators, the human body, alternative sources of energy, and the environment.
Nearly 260 students and 170 volunteers from 86 Southern California cities participated in the Summer Science Camp, including dozens from Buena Park, La Habra, Anaheim, Cerritos, Whittier, Garden Grove, Fullerton, Irvine, and Tustin. (continued below)

This year, the Summer Science Camp hosted 17 hands-on science workshops for students from Kindergarten to 12th grade, including Fundamentals of Flight, Forensics, Environmental Approach to Chemistry & Biology, Energy is a Blast, Robotronics, and Space Trek. Workshops were taught and facilitated by scientists, engineers, and educators from The Boeing Company, Southern California Gas Company, and Northrop Grumman, as well as alumni of the Summer Science Camp.
Team Science and their corporate sponsors were privileged to host Bonnie Dunbar who spoke to the students, parents, and volunteers of the Summer Science Camp. Dr. Bonnie Dunbar is a former NASA astronaut and is currently the President and CEO of The Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington.
The 18th Annual Summer Science Camp was made possible by generous contributions from the Boeing Employees Community Fund of California, Southern California Gas Company, NuVision Federal Credit Union, and Northrop Grumman.
